# HomeScore > Reference scores from saved environmental and school district data at 100 m sample points in 15 California counties across the Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco Bay Area regions. These points are not individual properties; HomeScore is not an official rating, property appraisal or safety certification. ## Pages and documentation - [Map](https://homescoremap.com/): Select a county, layer and map point to read saved scores and supporting evidence. With keyboard focus on the map, Enter inspects its center. - [Data sources](https://homescoremap.com/resources): Official source links, coverage and limitations. - [Source catalog JSON](https://homescoremap.com/sources.json): Source metadata, including items for further verification that do not contribute to scores. - [Scoring methodology](https://homescoremap.com/SCORING.en.md) - [Source documentation](https://homescoremap.com/SOURCES.en.md) - [中文评分规则](https://homescoremap.com/SCORING.md) - [中文数据来源](https://homescoremap.com/SOURCES.md) ## Using the map in a browser 1. Wait for the map to load and the "Locate address" button to become enabled. "County" moves the view; "Score layer" chooses the displayed factor. With keyboard focus on the map, Enter inspects its center. 2. For a California address the user asks to locate, fill "Find a home by address" with a street address plus a city or ZIP, then submit once with "Locate address". Commas and CA may be omitted; ZIP is optional when a city is supplied. Read the address status if matching fails; do not automatically resubmit. An area-center pin means the home has not been located: the result panel has data-state="region_only" and no home score. Select the actual home on the map before reading scores. For a matched address, check the approximate pin and select the correct point if needed. 3. After a matched address or an intentional map selection, wait for the result panel to finish loading, then read the eight individual scores and their completeness. Expand "Data and scoring details" for the county, data coverage, selected location, grid point coordinates, score generation and source retrieval dates. Expand each factor for its evidence and sources, and "Dates by county and source" for the saved source timestamps. Keep unknown or insufficient values explicit; they do not mean a high score or safety. ## Interpretation and access The eight factors are flood, wildfire, contaminated and cleanup sites, power lines, registered mines, oil and gas wells, aviation facilities, and mean ELA and math proficiency. Under v4.3, the school district score is the arithmetic mean of the two official 2024–25 CAASPP proficiency rates; where elementary and high school districts differ, the lower mean applies. The individual score and school heatmap use that same value. Same-type statewide percentiles are reference only and do not enter scoring. These are district-wide results, not individual school scores or enrollment guarantees. The homepage defaults to schools. Each of the eight layers requires only its own data to be complete; no overall score is calculated. Uncolored areas mean incomplete data or no coverage, not a high score or proof of safety. Wider views show aggregates; point details describe a 100 m representative point. Scores use saved snapshots, not real-time data. Source retrieval, score generation and official publication are different dates. Read the displayed version, completeness and source dates with each result; the methodology date is not a dataset update date. The website reads frozen score data in the browser. `POST /api/resolve` performs address matching only and does not return scores. It accepts JSON with an `address` field and returns approximate coordinates. `geocodio_address` means a matched address point or street-range estimate; the browser then reads frozen scores. `geocodio_region` with accuracyType="place" means a city or ZIP area center, with no matched house number and no automatic score read. If the house number cannot be reliably matched, at most one additional city or ZIP lookup may locate its area. Deliberate submission sends the address through HomeScore's Cloudflare service to Geocodio. HomeScore's application does not put the address in page URLs, browser storage, Google Analytics or application logs. Geocodio may retain lookup logs for up to 45 days. Matching does not independently verify a home or parcel. Neighboring-home matches are rejected; new addresses may be missing. Historical `/api/check` and `/api/atlas/*` endpoints belong only to the local Node workbench and are not public website services. The homepage HTML's data-static-manifest attribute identifies the current versioned JSON manifest; resolve its file references relative to that manifest URL. It describes county coverage, source dates and SHA-256 integrity metadata. Individual scores use compressed binary blocks, not a point-query JSON endpoint. The documented school-district-scores-2025.json is a local build input, not a public download.
